UP Dangal: How Cycle has kept the Yadav family united!

  • SP Chief Mulayam Singh had ousted son (CM) Akhilesh from party on Thursday and brought him back the next day
  • Party men declare Akhilesh as SP chief replacing Mulayam
  • Both almost part ways again but realise the power of Cycle and get back with each other and party
UP Dangal How Cycle has kept the Yadav family united

Last week the father ousted son from Samajwadi Party (SP), then just within a day he embraced the son again. Just two days later, party men declared Akhilesh as the SP chief replacing Mulayam Yadav. Then something unbelievable happened, and both are together again!

The Uttar Pradesh Dangal has been put to an end temporarily. But what was the thing which got the angry father and son back together? Of course it was Samajwadi Party’s Cycle.

Do you remember the advertisement of Kohler bathrooms, where a couple getting divorced get back just because they do not want to part ways with their stylish commode?

Here in UP, neither Mulayam Singh Yadav nor Akhilesh wants to part ways with the party symbol-The Cycle on which they have ridden for nearly five decades.

First time when there was a rift, leader Azam Khan brought them together, but the second time a ruling of the Election Commission (EC) regarding the Cycle united them.

It so happened, after SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was forcibly thrown out of the post by son Akhilesh, who is the Chief Minister and enjoys majority support of the elected MLAs and MLCs, both separately approached the EC seeking the Cycle symbol for their group.

However, EC told the both that it needs at least four to five months to look into all the records and sort this issue. Till then, there were more chances that the Cycle would be frozen and both teams would be asked to choose a new symbol.

This was the magic advice as both know the power of Cycle in Uttar Pradesh. So, it was better to be with a person who you almost hate, than to allow the other to have the Cycle.

The unity in the party is surely not a good sign for the BJP which is trying to make inroads in Uttar Pradesh. In fact, conspiracy theories even stated that Amit Shah of BJP had tried to create a rift between Mulayam and Akhilesh.

But when the both have decided to be with each other in difficulties as well as good times, (all for the Cycle) BJP has started attacking the Samajwadi Party vehemently.

Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah waged a war of words during the rally held in Lucknow on Monday.

People have surely fought for the symbols. Mayavathi in the Uttar Pradesh will never part ways with ‘Elephant’. In fact, some years ago, she filled the state with elephants (statues along with her own statues). Congress cannot be imagined without its ‘hand’, BJP without the ‘Lotus’ AAP without the ‘Broom’.

The Cycle may not be as fast as SUVs. But it has ridden past elephants, hands and lotuses a number of times.

Now, the problem is that there is one Cycle and two candidates –Mulayam and Akhilesh. Who will get to ride the Cycle?
