Vikravandi: Counting for the Tamil Nadu by-elections, which were held in Nanguneri and Vikravandi on Monday (October 21), commenced at 8 am on Thursday (October 24). The results of the election will be a weapon for the parties during the Tamil Nadu elections in 2021. In the first few rounds, the AIADMK candidates in both the constituencies have got comfortable leads.

The election saw a major battle between the AIADMK and DMK in Vikravandi. MR Muthamizhselvan, the AIADMK secretary of Kanai Union in the Villupuram district unit is fighting against N Pugazhendhi, the party treasurer for DMK’s Villupuram district unit.

In Nanguneri, the election is contested between the ruling AIADMK and DMK’s ally, Congress, with Rettiyarpatti V Narayanan contesting for AIADMK against Congress’ candidate R Manoharan.

Vikravandi had 574 polling stations, and Nanguneri had 299 stations. Vikravandi has an electorate of 2.57 lakh voters, Nanguneri has 2.23 lakh voters.
