Tamil Nadu chief minister’s office staffer dies of coronavirus
Over 200 employees including many IAS officers and officers at different ranks have contracted this infection at the Tamil Nadu secretariat and are under treatment
Chennai: A staffer in the Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s office has died of coronavirus. The 56-year-old who was working in the cadre as ‘senior private secretary’ passed away on Tuesday (June 16).
He was initially hospitalised at the Government Multi-Super-Speciality Hospital at Omandurar estate and for further treatment he was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH). From there he was shifted to a private hospital and then again to RGGGH, where he breathed last.
The kin of the deceased is residing in government employees’ quarters.
According to reports, over 200 employees including many IAS officers and officers at different ranks have contracted this infection at the secretariat and are under treatment.
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday breached the 48,000-mark after 1,515 people tested positive for COVID-19. The total cases included 61 returnees from other countries and states.
Over 900 cases reported in Chennai on Tuesday, taking the tally to 34,245.
