Sadhus can now get passport under Gurus name instead of parents

According to the new passport rules announced in Delhi on Friday, sadhus and sanyasis can mention names of their spiritual gurus instead of their parents.

The government has actually accepted the demand made by the sadhus and the sanyasis. But in this case, the sadhus will have to provide at least one valid ID proof like Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC), PAN card, Adhaar Card, etc in which the name of the guru has been recorded against the columns for parents’ names.

This is not the only change that the ministry of external affairs has brought. In order to make the entire process of application of passport and other services, the government has taken a number of steps.

Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh stated that these new rules are only going to help the Indian citizens.

One of the most important changes that the ministry has brought is that from now on one will not need to provide birth certificate as a proof of date of birth.

Instead, one can now provide any of the following documents while applying for a passport: transfer/School leaving/ Matriculation Certificate, PAN card, Aadhaar Card/E-Aadhaar having the DOB of applicant, copy of the extract of the service record of the applicant, driving licence, EPIC or LIC policy bond.
