NDA moving towards majority in RS thanks to JDU alliance
- Alliance with JDU, support from regional parties and independent members NDA is hoping for 121 seats in RS
- The NDA government is passing all bills in Lok Sabha without any difficulty because of clear majority
- In Rajya Sabha that was not possible as NDA does not have clear majority in RS
- Alliance between NDA and JDU will considerably weaken the Congress led Opposition
FollowBJP that won with definite majority but was running short of absolute majority at the Rajya Sabha even after three years in office is inching towards the magical number, thanks to alliance with JDU. In the 245 seat strength of the Rajya Sabha, 123 seats are required to announce absolute majority. With the recent alliance with JDU, support from regional parties and independent members NDA is hoping to increase its strength to 121, short of only two seats for clear majority, reports PTI.
With this the Congress-led Opposition will be considerably weakened. NDA had 79 members in the Rajya Sabha till now. With the alliance with JDU of 10, the number went up to 89. Â BJP is sure to win the seat vacated by the demise of Anil Madhav Dave in Madhya Pradesh. In the event of Ahmed Patel losing in Gujarat, BJP will get one more seat taking the total to 91.
AIADMK, Indian Lok Dal (INLD), BJD, TRS and YSR Congress have 26 members. Of the eight nominated members four are supporting BJP.  All this ads up to 121 seats for BJP.  The elections at Uttar Pradesh for nine seats can be obtained with some efforts giving NDA clear majority. However, Bihar elections are going to be tricky. Out of the six Rajya Sabha seats JDU has four and BJP has two. If the state goes to poll immediately RJD - Congress alliance is sure to get three seats. The NDA government was passing all bills in Lok Sabha without any difficulty because of clear majority but in Rajya Sabha that was not possible as NDA does not have clear majority in RS.
