Days after an MBA student was allegedly gang-raped in Mysuru, the University of Mysore has imposed restrictions on the movement of female students on campus after 6.30 pm.

The new restrictions, which reportedly is aimed at the safety of girl students, surprisingly do not apply to male students.

On August 24, a college student was allegedly gang-raped by four men near Chamundi Hills late in the evening.

Following the incident, people have been prohibited from entering Kukkarahalli lake inside the university premises after 6.30 pm.

The controversial order evoked sharp responses on social media.

The circular came close on the heels of controversial remarks made by Karnataka ministers, shaming the victim. Home Minister Araga Jnanendra had questioned the timing of the college student's visit to the deserted site on the outskirts of Mysuru.
