Mumbai college girl files false rape case police let her off with only a warning

Taking a cue from the various crime shows that are aired on television, a Mumbai-based college cooked up a false rape story to exact revenge on her friend.

The woman alleged that she was pulled into an Ecco car, taken to a secluded place in Charkop and raped. The woman stated that the incident took place on July 6, 2017, when she was on her way to college. She said she was raped and left near Aksa Beach, with her limbs tied with rope.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the police filed a case on July 6. More than eight teams were formed to probe the allegations.

One group questioned the woman; the rest got details of the case.

The police found that the CCTV footage from Charkop did not show any Ecco car. Instead, the woman was seen taking an autorickshaw to reach Marve in Malad (West).

The police traced the autorickshaw driver. The driver identified the woman.

The technical analysis team found the woman was at Marve beach, instead of Aksa, where she claimed she was left. “All claims made by the woman turned out to be false,” said an officer according to a report by the Hindustan Times.

Knowing that the game was up, the woman confessed that she concocted the story to exact revenge on her friend after a fight. She said as TV series showed gang-rape case witnesses being questioned for days, she thought of the story to put her friend through the hassle.

Surprisingly, all that the police did was to let her off with just a warning for wasting their time.
