West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee virtually inaugurated the bus depot of South Bengal State Transport Corporation. From this new depot, government buses will run on 18 routes in different parts of the state. People of Rampurhat are very happy with this initiative of the government.

Rampurhat is one of the important cities in Birbhum district. This city can also be called the gateway to North Bengal. Earlier, there was no bus depot for South Bengal State Transport Corporation in Rampurhat. Three years ago, former Transport Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay visited Rampurhat and allotted land for building a bus depot along the national highway. Work started and after 3 years a bus depot was finally completed.

For now, the administrative building and the buses have been repaired. On June 2, bus services have been launched on certain routes on a trial basis amid COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday (November 10), Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee virtually inaugurated the depot of South Bengal State Transport Corporation from Nabanna (State Secretariat). State Agriculture Minister Ashish Banerjee was present at the event.

Diptiman Singh, in-charge of the company, said, “For now, we will try to provide several buses in Kolkata, Asansol, Malda, and North Bengal. However, buses will also run on Raiganj and Balurghat routes in the upcoming days. This depot will be the gateway to North Bengal for us. Therefore, this bus deport is very important and people will be highly benefitted.”
