Maharastra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse resigns

Maharastra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse resigns

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse, accused of land deal irregularities resigned today. Today Khadse met the state Chief Minister Devender Fadnavis and submitted his resignation.

The resignation comes after there were strong signals from his BJP’s central leadership disapproving of his official role in the Maharashtra government.

Two days back, Maharashtra CM had briefed PM Narendra Modi and BJP party chief Amit Shah over the issue.

Khadse, a popular OBC leader in Fadnavis government, has been accused of series irregularities in land deals in Pune and is said to have received calls from don Dawood Ibrahim.

The minister was accused of making a land purchase in Pune at a much lower price than the existing market rates in his wife’s and son-in-law’s name. While he is said to have paid ₹3.75 crore, the market value of the land is about ₹ 40 crore.

Khadse till yesterday has been maintaining that such charges are ‘baseless’, according to a PTI report.

The BJP’s stand on corruption-free-governance was drawing a lot of flak from not just opposition - the Congress and the NCP, but also ally Shiv Sena over Khadse continuing in the ministry.
