Nonsense to contrast me with Bhuran Wani: Kashmiri IAS topper Shah Faesal

Kashmiri IAS topper Shah Faesal Bhuran Wani

Off late, a section of the media and Twitterati has been hailing an Indian civil servant from the State of Jammu and Kashmir as a 'good example' and 'hero'. The man in the limelight - Shah Faesal, became the first Kashmiri to top the IAS exams in 2009 and the first candidate from Kashmir in several years. Amusingly, even as photos prasising his 'proper' behaviour remain popular on Twitter, he himself lashed out at this portrayal in an angry Facebook post.

Kashmiri IAS topper Shah Faesal, who currently heads the education department in the Valley, slammed the "national media" for making him a part of its "sadistic propaganda" by contrasting him with the slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Bhuran Wani.

"By juxtaposing my photos with the images of a slain militant commander, a section of national media has once again fallen back upon its conventional savagery that cashes on falsehoods, divides people and creates more hatred," he wrote in a Facebook post on Friday.

Wani was gunned down by the armed forces on July 8 and his death has triggered a violent wave of unrest in the Valley that has left more than 40 people dead and 3100 injured in street clashes between protesters and security forces.

"At a moment when Kashmir is mourning its dead, the propaganda and provocation being dished out from red and blue newsrooms is breeding more alienation and anger in Kashmir than what Indian state can manage," Faesal said.

Angry at the way news organisations such as "ZeeNews Aaj Tak TimesNow and NewsX," the celebrated IAS officer has threatened to resign.

"Personal vulnerability apart, the very fact of becoming a part of a ridiculous debate is something which has disturbed me very much. Have I joined IAS to do a job or to become a part of your sadistic propaganda machine?" he asked.

"In fact when I qualified this exam I never thought of spending my whole life scratching the desk and if this nonsense around me continues, I might prefer to resign sooner than later," he added.
