Mandya: In a shocking incident, a journalist who was undergoing a COVID-19 test was attacked by Krishik Gowda, son of JD(S) MLC KT Srikante Gowda. The accused was detained by police in Mandya on Saturday, moments after he allegedly assaulted the journalist who had arrived to undergo COVID-19 tests.

Chaos erupted when Srikante Gowda, along with his supporters, strongly opposed conducting health check-ups of journalists at Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan, near his residence. following which the assault occurred.

The Department of Information and Public Relations had organised tests for journalists at the Bhavan. While 17 had attended the camp on Friday, as many as 21 had arrived to undergo the test on Saturday.

Gowda, his son and their supporters criticised the district administration for conducting tests at the Bhavan. But media persons opposed him.

The MLC, his son and their supporters abused the government personnel at the spot.

According to a report by The Hindu, Mandya deputy commissioner MV Venkatesh said the district administration would look into the matter and initiate measures against the persons concerned.

The Karnataka Journalists Union (KJU) has condemned the incident and urged the state government to initiate action against Gowda, his son and their supporters.

The government should take action against the accused, demanded BT Mohankumar, president, KJU, Mandya district.

The cops have registered a case against Srikante Gowda and Krishik under various IPC sections.
