CT Ravi had decided to resign and had approached Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Governor Vala to relieve him from the state cabinet on October 2.

However, according to sources, he was directed to continue in the wake of the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations and Mysuru Dasara.

Ravi's resignation comes ahead of the state's imminent third Cabinet expansion after the November 10 results of by-elections held on November 3 in RR Nagar in Bengaluru and Shira in Tumakuru district.

Ravi's resignation is also expected to help Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa designate more legislators to the cabinet as he is expected to take a call based on the central leadership's recommendations after the bypoll and legislative council results on Tuesday.
