Highlights: PM Modi inaugurates Bengaluru Tech Summit, reiterates Centre's model 'Technology First'

FollowNew Delhi/Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Karnataka's flagship annual technology event - Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020 (BTS2020) - via video-conferencing on Thursday.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a great vision of making India a $5 trillion economy and a global economic powerhouse by 2025. Karnataka government pledges since participation in government's vision towards this,” Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa said at Bengaluru Tech Summit, 2020.
PM Modi addressed the gathering and said youth can play a major role in developing robust cyber security solutions.
“Our government has successfully created a market for digital and tech solutions. It has made technology a key part of all schemes. Our governance model is 'Technology First',” PM Modi said.
“A great culture of hackathons have started in India over the years. Now, we are in the middle of information era. In this, first mover doesn't matter but best mover does,” he added.
“Digital India has become a way of life and BHIM UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is one such example of it.”
The Prime Minister said, “Youth can play a major role in developing robust cyber security solutions; potential of youth and opportunities for them are endless.”
“India is uniquely positioned to leap ahead in the information era. We have the best minds as well as the biggest market. Our local tech solutions have the potential to go global. It is time for tech-solutions that are Designed in India but Deployed for the World.”
“Through technology, we have enhanced human dignity. Millions of farmers received monetary support in one click. At the peak of the Covid-19 lockdown, it was technology that ensured that India's poor received proper and quick assistance.”
The BTS2020 event is scheduled to take place from November 19 to 21. It is being organised by the government of Karnataka along with Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society, the state government's Vision Group on information technology, biotechnology and startup, and Software Technology Parks of India.
Over 25 nations are participating in the 23rd edition of the event along with thought leaders, industry captains, technocrats, researchers, innovators, investors, policy- makers and educators from India and different parts of the world, the officials said.
"The event will have the participation of more than 200 Indian companies setting up their virtual exhibition, more than 4,000 delegates, 270 speakers, around 75 panel discussions and more than 50,000 participants every day," an official statement said.
This year, the theme of the summit is 'Next is Now.' The summit would deliberate on key challenges emerging in the post-pandemic world with a focus on the impact of prominent technologies and innovations on the domains of information technology and electronics and biotechnology.
