The fall out over Congress president post in Madhya Pradesh between Jyotiraditya Scindia and CM Kamal Nath has finally resulted in the collapse of Kamal Nath government.

With 17 MLAs, including Jyotiraditya Scindia, remaining incommunicado, the Congress top brass has hinted that Kamal Nath has been asked to step down.

Now, 20 ministers from his Cabinet have handed over their resignation to him. Kamal Nath accepted their resignations and is likely to reconstitute the Cabinet today.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reached the residence of interim president Sonia Gandi to apprise her about the political crisis in Madhya Pradesh.

It is reported that 17 rebel leaders, including 6 ministers and 11 MLAs, are staying in a resort on Bengaluru outskirts.

In the 2018 Assembly election, the Congress party managed to win 114 seats in the 230-member House.

The party formed the government with the support of four Independent MLAs and two BSP MLAs, and a legislator from the Samajwadi Party (SP). The BJP had secured 109 seats in the state Assembly.

The Congress has been accusing BJP of launching its operation Lotus to unseat Kamal Nath’s government.
