COVID-19: Karnataka reports 38 new cases, total number of infections rises to 353

The number of COVID-19 positive cases has been on a steady rise in Karnataka all through this week with 38 more cases detected on Friday.

Bengaluru: A staggering 38 new positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Karnataka, taking the total number of affected in the state to 353, the Health department said on Friday.

This is the highest single day tally so far. The state on Thursday had reported 36 new cases.

"Thirty-eight new positive cases have been reported from last evening to this noon... Till date 353 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed.This includes 13 deaths and 82 discharges," the department said in a mid-day situation update.

Among the 38 new cases, eleven are from Nanjangud in Mysuru, who are contacts of a single patient who had earlier tested positive.

Other districts with large numbers of fresh cases are - 8 from Bengaluru urban, 7 from Hosapete in Ballari, 3 from Malavalli in Mandya. Contact tracing for 6 out of the 8 in Bengaluru is still on. One patient is said to be a Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patient.

3 more from Chikkaballapura have tested positive. 2 from Vijayapura and one each from Bidar and Dakshina Kannada have also tested positive.

Five out of the total 38 new cases are children.
