Warangal: Telangana’s Warangal (Rural) district collector M Haritha was praised by netizens after she gifted a smartphone to a poor student who secured 89% in the intermediate exam and was struggling to attend online classes.

Interesting thing about the poor girl is, last year, the minor girl was rescued from her parents as they were trying to marry her off.

The girl was rescued by District Child Protection officials and is studying in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV). The girl who caught the attention of the DC, is a native of Ookal village in Raiparthy mandal.

The girl expressed her desire to go for higher studies. However, she could not attend classes due to institutions being shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She also struggled to cope up with online classes as she did not have a smartphone. The matter was brought to notice of the DC. After this news reached Haritha, she decided to surprise the girl with a smartphone.
