Congress wins in Punjab Amarinder CM will Sidhu be deputy CM

After a gap of almost a decade, Congress will final see itself return to power. For former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh this sweet win could not have come on a better day than on 11 March, his 75th birthday.

Captain Amarinder Singh, who single-handedly gave the Congress its victory, will definitely be sworn in as the next chief minister of Punjab. All eyes are now on Captain Amarinder Singh as soon he will have to decide on his cabinet. But one question that is widely being asked is whether he will have a deputy, and if yes, will Sidhu be considered for the post.

As per poll results, Navjot Singh Sidhu won from Amritsar East by a margin of 42,809 votes. Earlier speaking to media, Captain Singh said “It is a gift by the people of Punjab on my 75th birthday. The sensible voters of Punjab have voted f‎or a definite change. My priority would be to first take up the governance issues that do not have monetary implications.”

When he was fielded with the question on what lay ahead for Sidhu, Amarinder said the issue of deputy CM would be decided by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

Known for his funny one-liners, Sidhu has proved himself to be a force to reckon with in Punjab. His sharp barbs against the Badals and Kejriwal has already won him the hearts of the voters. During the campaign trail itself, he was being hailed as the deputy CM of the state.

There is no denying the fact that it was Sidhu's joining the Congress that gave it the edge.

However, it could prove to be quite a challenge for the Captain, especially as besides Sidhu there are also several rebels from the SAD who had contested the polls on a Congress ticket.
