Recently, a lawmaker was arrested for raping a 14-year old in Meghalaya and allegedly he is also involved in a sex racket having a minor.

In another incident, a 40-year-old teacher and his wife were arrested in Belagavi on charges of sexual abuse of a minor girl.

And today, a class 10th student was set on fire by two boys for opposing obscene comments in Odisha.

This is the second week of 2017 and already multiple arrests and charges have been made for sexual assault involving minors in India. To put it simply, minors are the new target of the sexual predators in India.

Understanding the mind of a sexual predator is may not be easy. However, the most common reasons for targeting minors can be the fact that they seem easy prey, physically weaker, easy to threaten, and of course, the presumption that the parents might never report such crimes.

Also, the safety of children in school is another issue that must be addressed immediately. Guidelines have already been laid down, but the schools have failed to follow the same on many occasions.

In Bengaluru, the alleged rape of a 6-year-old in an upscale school shocked the nation. Following this incident, the guideline was issued and later on almost 200 school owners as well as principals were booked under IPC for failing to implement the guidelines.

India is already failing its women, and now the rising number of sexual assault of minors is making the country unlivable for all.
