Atishi, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi minister, is set to take her oath of office on September 21. The event will formalize her continued role in the Delhi government and further strengthen her position within the party.

Following Arvind Kejriwal's resignation, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena requested that Chief Minister-designate Atishi be sworn in on September 21. According to sources, President Droupadi Murmu has received Kejriwal's resignation letter. However, the AAP legislature has yet to set a date for the oath-taking event.

Atishi is poised to become the third female chief minister of Delhi after being overwhelmingly chosen as the head of the AAP parliamentary party. In a calculated manoeuvre to gain advantage ahead of the impending Delhi Assembly elections, she took over as leader when Kejriwal quit. Kejriwal's close supporter Atishi has promised to reinstate Kejriwal as chief minister. There will be an assembly in Delhi on September 26–27, where she would have to show the majority of her administration.

After claiming the right to form the government, Atishi stressed her commitment to defending the interests of Delhi residents. She also backed Kejriwal, claiming the corruption charges against him unfounded, and accused central government agencies of unfairly persecuting him.

Atishi, who is responsible for many of the AAP government's reforms, notably in education, is anticipated to stay as chief minister until the Assembly elections early next year. Her leadership is viewed as a continuation of Kejriwal's agenda, while simultaneously preparing the AAP for a new mandate from voters.
