Baramulla Police conducted a TII Naka response rehearsal on the Baramulla-Chandoosa Road on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security preparedness and response mechanisms in the district, officials said.
The rehearsal was aimed at assessing the operational readiness of police personnel during a simulated security situation and strengthening the response mechanism at naka points, where personnel carry out checking and interception as part of preventive and security duties.
Strengthening Area Surveillance
The exercise also provided an opportunity to assess the coordination and response of personnel deployed during naka operations and identify areas requiring further improvement, officials said. The Baramulla-Chandoosa corridor falls under an area where police have been carrying out regular security and surveillance measures. The district police have recently reviewed security arrangements in Chandoosa, including CCTV coverage and accessibility, while also checking compliance by SIM vendors with prescribed procedures for maintaining subscriber records and verifying customers.
Emphasis on Intelligence-Based Operations
The latest rehearsal comes amid increased emphasis by security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir on intelligence-based operations, surveillance and effective naka and interception mechanisms. During a recent security review in Baramulla, IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar stressed the need to strengthen intelligence generation at the grassroots level, maintain sustained operational preparedness and improve naka/interception mechanisms, according to police-related reporting.
Multi-Agency Contingency Drills
Baramulla Police has also conducted multi-agency contingency response exercises in recent weeks. On September 13, a contingency response rehearsal was held at Baramulla Railway Station under the supervision of the SP Operations, with participation from SOG Baramulla, CRPF, Army, BSF, RPF, GRPF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services and medical personnel.
The exercise focused on inter-agency coordination, mobilisation, communication, evacuation and emergency management. Such rehearsals are conducted to evaluate response mechanisms, improve coordination among participating personnel and identify operational gaps that may need to be addressed during an actual emergency or security incident.
