Fresh criticism could be heard from the students of the premier cinema institute- FTII- after veteran actor Anupam Kher was appointed the chairperson. Calling it "crazy" and "another joke", after the appointment of television actor Gajendra Chauhan, the students condemned the current move with strong words.
The Bollywood actor was appointed by the Union information and broadcasting ministry, almost 6 months after the tenure of Chauhan, a member of the BJP, was over. On Chauhan's appointment, students went on a 139-day strike, saying that he neither had the experience nor had vision to run the institute. Speaking of Kher, Harishankar Nachimuthu, who had headed the longest-running protest in the institute said, "How can Kher head FTII when he is already running a private acting school?”
He further said that the students of FTII did not see any difference in the appointment of Kher and Chauhan since both have been vocal supporters of the BJP. In fact, Kher's wife is a BJP legislator from Chandigarh. Speaking to the Hindustan Times, the student further added, "We had expected this from the government."
