'Acche Din' has become one of the most popular catchphrases of PM Modi. And in a strange way, it has become the easiest way to target the PM, now that not all of the election promises have come true. However, amusingly, it would seem he did not even come up with the phrase.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai in September, 2016, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said -
“Acche din maannesehota hai (Good days depends on one’s belief). It was at an NRI meet in Delhi that Manmohan Singh had said that ‘Acche din ayenge’ (good days will come). When asked when ‘acche din’ will come, Singh had replied, ‘in the future’ Modiji said the same thing somewhere and it has now become the millstone around our neck,”
With that thought as a kick starter and using the many speeches the PM has made during campaigning for the UP elections, Twitter has decided to fact check quite a lot of what the PM has said. For example, PM Modi claimed during the Uttar Pradesh elections that electricity supply was not regular during Deepavali but continuous during Eid.
"If one gets electricity during Ramzan, then one should get electricity in Diwali also. If one gets electricity during Holi, then one should get it during Eid also” Modi had said.
But a fact check by journalist Rajdeep Sardesai states:
That seemed to have triggered quite a large bandwagon. Here are some of the tweets expressing disappointment that 'Acche Din' have not come yet, via the hashtag 'ModiKaJhoot'
So much so, supporters of this Acche Din ideology even stated that the tag has been created by Pakistan.
