The crime against women in Delhi continues unabated. On Sunday, a four-year-old girl had been assaulted and killed in northwest Delhi's Keshavpuram area, now another horrendous case has come to light. A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour, in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohila on Monday evening.

The man identified as Balbir (35) was drunk and had lured the child using chocolates. Police have arrested him and in his confession he said that he had taken her to an isolated area near Dayabasti station and allegedly raped and strangled her, before leaving her to die in a six-foot ditch.

The man took the police to the spot where he left the girl to die and miraculously even 10 hours later, the child was alive. She is now recovering in the Bara Hindu Rao hospital.  Balbir, was drunk during the crime, yet in order that he left no evidence had even tried to strangulate the girl before dumping her in the ditch.

"The girl was missing since 7pm on Monday. Her parents and neighbours searched for her for two hours before informing the police," a senior police officer said.

A case under sections 363 (kidnapping), 307 (attempt to murder), 376(rape) of IPC and other relevant sections of the POCSO has been registered against the accused, the officer said.
