Meanwhile, on Monday, 16 new cases were reported to have emerged, taking the official tally to 148. Of the new cases, three of them happened to be athletes who are not residents of the Olympic Village, while the athletes and personnel have been placed under a 14-day quarantine, reports PTI.

So far, the contingents to have been affected so far are the Czech Republic, the USA, Chile, South Africa and the Netherlands. Also, the Czech is enquiring whether there was a possible health custom violation by its continent, as four of its athletes have been affected, leading to its withdrawal from the beach volleyball and road cycling events.

Moreover, the organisers have urged the media houses to adhere to the COVID norms while covering the Games. The media personnel have also been warned of "disciplinary consequences" if violations occurred on the same.
