Milkha Singh tests COVID positive, isolates himself at home
Milkha Singh is a legendary athlete who has represented India globally. He is a multiple-time gold-medalist, having won seven golds and a silver as a sprinter in track and field events. He was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 1959.
Legendary former Indian track athlete and sprinter Milkha Singh has been diagnosed COVID positive. The news broke out on Thursday, as he was diagnosed the same after one of his staff members tested positive too.
The 91-year-old legend is currently isolating himself at home. “His condition is stable, but has been down with fever since last night,” a doctor was quoted as saying, reports IANS.
Milkha’s staff member who tested positive happens to be his cook. The cook has been working with them for the past 50 years, said Milkha’s wife, Nirmal Kaur.
Meanwhile, ever since the pandemic broke out, Milkha has urged all to exercise regularly and maintain proper fitness to build immunity. “As a sportsman, I want to tell you with a humble request that you are staying indoors and for you, an exercise of 15-20 minutes is very necessary,” he had earlier told in a video message.
Milkha has won seven gold medals in his career to date, along with a silver. He continues to remain the most legendary sprinter in Indian history, while his son Jeev Milkha Singh is one of the top-rated golfers in the country.
