Kerala gold smuggling case: Swapna Suresh, Sarith PS, Sandeep Nair remanded to custody till August 21

The NIA court on July 24 sent Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case accused Sarith PS, Swapna Suresh, and Sandeep Nair to judicial custody till August 21.
Swapna Suresh told the court that she suffered mental torture in custody and had provided a statement regarding this to Customs officials. The court will consider the bail petitions of Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair on August 5.
On July 10, the NIA registered a case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, against Swapna and three others to probe if the case is linked to terror funding.
The Kerala gold smuggling scam came to light after the Customs department seized 30 kg gold from an air cargo consignment from the UAE to the country’s consulate in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5.
The case took a political turn after photos of Swapna Suresh with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan surfaced.
