Union home minister Amit Shah eats lunch at a farmer’s residence in East Midnapore’s Balijuri village on Saturday (December 19).

<p>Earlier in the day, the union home minister visited Swami Vivekananda’s birthplace in north Kolkata. Coming to Vivekananda's house, Amit Shah said, “I am very fortunate to visit the birthplace of Swami Vivekananda. in his young age has spread the knowledge, culture, philosophy of India all over the world. He acquainted the entire world with universal brotherhood through his speech at the parliament of religions in USA. He tied modernism with spiritualism.”<br />&nbsp;</p>

<p>The visit comes at a time when thousands of farmers are protesting against the Centre’s newly passed agricultural bill. BJP has planned an elaborate outreach programme to spread awareness on the farm laws.</p>
