Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a world personality with many blockbusters to her credit, not just in Bollywood but internationally too.
However, it is unfortunate to note that Aishwarya has taken a few "not so perfect" decisions in her life and has rejected some worthy movies in Bollywood that went on to become super-hits.
The film she will regret rejecting the most would be Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Heroine, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Munnabhai MBBS; but due to various reasons, these projects could not take off back then starring Ms Rai. Check out the long list of Bollywood movies that Aishwarya Rai rejected:
Heroine was announced at the Cannes Film Festival, but her unexpected pregnancy made her quit the movie during production stages. Later, the role was played by Kareena Kapoor.
Post the success of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to recast Salman Khan and Aishwarya in his dream project Bajirao Mastani in the title roles. But, due to various reasons, this project could not take off back then and in 2015, Bhansali finally released the movie with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the stars of this commercial and critical success.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa, a super hit remake of a south Indian movie Manichitrathazhu was first offered to Aishwarya Rai, but she rejected the haunted role which landed on Vidya Balan's lap.
She rejected Kuch Kuch Hota Hai due to her packed schedule. She was shooting for Jeans at the time and therefore rejected this. (This was later played by Rani Mukerji)
Munnabhai MBBS's initial lead cast was Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, but due to shoulder injury, Khan backed out and Sanjay Dutt was cast as the protagonist. Apparently owing to Sanjay's low career phase back then, Aishwarya too opted out.
Veer Zaara is another classic hit film that Aishwarya Rai refused, and Rani Mukerji cashed in on.
Formerly, Abhishek, Aishwarya and Saif were said to play the lead roles in Dostana. Aishwarya rejected it due to her busy schedule and Priyanka Chopra took up the role. The fact that the movie was about two male leads, did not appeal to Saif, who dropped out later.
When Bollywood actor Salman Khan dropped in on the sets of Chalte Chalte and indulged in a huge argument with Aishwarya, Shah Rukh Khan, not being able to cope up with the ruckus, replaced Aishwarya with Rani.
Corporate was another Madhur Bhandarkar movie Aishwarya Rai rejected, this film went on to frame Bipasha Basu's career in Bollywood.
Raja Hindustani's director Dharmesh's first choice for the lead role was Aishwarya Rai, but the actress who already had bagged four movies at that point, chose to give it all up and participate in the Miss World pageant. Later, Karishma Kapoor was seen doing the same role.
