In what turned out to be a high-scoring, but normal Twenty20 (T20) match, Delhi Capitals (DC) came up with some stellar bowling performance to restrict Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 18 runs in Match 16 of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) in Sharjah. The win takes DC back to the top of the table, while KKR are down to fifth.
Match report: Winning the toss, KKR skipper, Dinesh Karthik, elected to field first, as once again the decision recoiled. It was opener Prithvi Shaw's 41-ball 66, along with skipper Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 38-ball 88 and Rishabh Pant's 17-ball 38, that was enough to drive DC to a respectable total of 228/4.
In reply, KKR were off to a slow and steady start. Although they looked to accelerate, the DC bowlers bowled tight, hardly giving any room to the batsmen. Nitish Rana played a good innings of a 35-ball 58. It was followed by Eoin Morgan's quickfire 18-ball 44 and Rahul Tripathi's 16-ball 36, as both displayed some blitz in the closing stages. Nonetheless, Anrich Nortje's 3/33 was too strong, as DC stole the game away, while some records were scripted in the tie.
