Here's why Mumbai cops arrested car designer Dilip Chhabria

Celebrated Indian car designer Dilip Chhabria been arrested by the Crime Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch in connection with a major car financing and forgery scam.

<p>According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, the scam could be valued well over Rs 40 crore.<br />&nbsp;</p><p>Chhabria, who was booked under seven sections of the Indian Penal code, has been accused of illegally selling multiple cars with the same engine and chassis numbers.&nbsp;<br />&nbsp;</p><p>He has also been accused of taking multiple loans on one car and then selling the car to a third party.</p>

According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, the scam could be valued well over Rs 40 crore.

Chhabria, who was booked under seven sections of the Indian Penal code, has been accused of illegally selling multiple cars with the same engine and chassis numbers. 

He has also been accused of taking multiple loans on one car and then selling the car to a third party.

<p>Explaining the alleged modus operandi, Mumbai Crime Branch officials claimed that Chhabria bought cars designed by his own company on loans financed by Non-Banking Financial Companies and then sold them to third-party customers.&nbsp;<br />&nbsp;</p><p>Investigators believe that Chhabria sold over 90 cars allegedly using fraudulent financing.<br />&nbsp;</p>
