Mumbai: OTT platform has become a one-stop destination for all kinds of entertainment content with a variety of genres.

These platforms got more viewerships especially during the time of lockdown, with series, shows, and movies that catered to all age groups with unique and creative options.

Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad held a press conference to inform about the new guidelines and rules that will apply to OTT platforms.

These guidelines have been divided over the announcement of new rules and guidelines to apply to OTT platforms.

From now onwards OTT platforms will have to classify their content into five-age categories.

The categories will be U (Universal), U/A& (years), U/A13, U/A 16, and A (Adult).

As freshly launched guidelines will also come with parental control, Abhishek Banerjee, an actor and casting director who was seen in Mirzapur as 'Compounder' and 'Hathoda Tyagi' in Paatal Lok said,"Parental control is must as parents need to monitor and regulate the content that their children are watching on OTT platforms. But at the same time, I hope that these guidelines do not clip the wings of the artists and bring a hindrance to their artwork. I hope these rules are progressive and not regressive."

Tandav director Ali Abbas Zafar in a chat with News 18 told that he is very happy with new guidelines and also thanked PM Narendra Modi for the same," When our show was released we had to run from pillar to post to prevent an arrest. Certain people's feelings and sentiments were hurt. Had the guidelines been present then, it would have served a two-fold purpose: We would have been self-informed in advance with what is permissible and what isn't and we would not run from pillar to post. So I welcome these guidelines."

Well, these guidelines have divided the industry's opinion into two poles.

In a chat with a news portal actor Manoj Bajpayee had expressed his unwillingness over the guidelines.

He felt it will hamper the growth and talent of the OTT series, and the platforms will lose its charm if it comes under censorship.

Many artists feel that OTT gives freedom to produce original content that is unfiltered and raw.

Hence it will be a test of time to see how these fresh guidelines will affect the industry and the artists.
