Mumbai: Noted music composer Vanraj Bhatia passed away at the age of 93. The composer scored music in many films throughout his career span. He was popularly known for giving music to Shyam Benegal's 'Ankur', Naseeruddin Shah starrer 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro'.

The composer was suffering from age-related illnesses and was also struggling financially. He was living alone with his domestic help at his apartment on Napean Sea Road in Mumbai.

According to the reports, his health had worsened in the last couple of months. He was also avoiding doctors appointment owing to the Covid-19 situation.

Hansal Mehta also mourned the loss of the greatest music composer.

This year, music composer Ehsaan Noorani had posted about Bhatia's plight on Facebook, seeking financial help for the composer.

In September 2019. Actor Aamir Khan had announced a book based on the composer's life. Bhatia was best known for his work in Indian New Wave Cinema. He is also one of the finest and leading composers of Western Classical Music in India.

He is a recipient of the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for the television film Tamas (1988), the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Creative and Experimental Music (1989) and India's fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri (2012).
