Top Gun 2 Confirmed After 31 Years

When Top Gun came out in 1986, some of us were really young men and women, some possibly in their diapers. There was a time, when we still had dreams, ambitions… maybe even hope. Watching Top Gun changed lives, forever. Gone were the wayfarers, in came the aviators. Gone were the dreams and ambitions, in came an irrational desire to shift to the US from India to become a pilot. Top Gun had its pros and cons but we loved it. As soon as we saw it, we wanted a sequel. But there was no sequel then. So, we waited.

For 31 long, long years.

Today, we are not as young as we used to be. Our dreams, ambitions, and hope have been replaced by arthritis, mostly. We don’t mean to complain, but we are not happy. Too little, too late. 31 years can take a toll on anyone, whether it’s us or Van Kilmer. Here’s an idea- Maybe, just don’t do the sequel?

Why? For starters, the actors are old AF. While we have nothing against a bunch 50-year old men in a movie that originally represented restless, young men, it’s going to be a lot harder to relive that nostalgia.

Alright, maybe we are wrong and it doesn’t matter if the sequel took so long. Maybe, Top Gun 2 won’t suck just because it took 3 decades to finally happen. A part of us wants it to be good, but the other part of us has PTSD from being disappointed for so long. Deep inside, we want the film to be amazing, but we are just afraid. Afraid that it won’t live up to the hype, afraid of a legacy being tarnished, and most importantly, afraid of change.

If the film turns out to be good, there are going to be two groups of people who will be even happier than us – The US Navy (applications for Naval Aviators went up by 500% after the original Top Gun), and the folks over at Ray-Ban, for obvious reasons.

Either way, We are going to be watching this movie first day, first show.

Best of luck, Maverick. Don’t let us down.
