Mumbai: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's film Toofaan, a sports drama, is much more than a boxing saga. The film traces the ascent of Mumbai hoodlum Aziz Ali from the lowest of his times to the top of the heap.

Aziz (Farhan Akhtar) and his friend Munna (Hussain Dalal) are the enforcers for Dongri gangsters Jaffer (Vijay Raaz). Later, Aziz encounters doctor Ananya (Mrunal Thakur) and she sets him clear on the road of life.

The road of life leads to coach Narayan Prabhu (Paresh Rawal), who, despite his attempt for Aziz on account of his faith, tries to sculpt the directionless Aziz into a match-winning champion.

Toofaan narrates a respectable amount of hard work it needs to make a name in the sports industry. While Aziz's coach tries his best to train him, Aziz also fights silent battles to overcome the stigma of the intolerant male society, his love equation and much more.

The scenes where Aziz (Farhan Akhtar) preps to get back in action will blow your mind, as it's evident that the actor has put his heart and mind, blood and sweat into the movie. Toofaan is based on a story idea by Farhan Akhtar and Anjum Rajbali's screenplay.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy's songs is a breather in this sports drama followed by an old-fashioned love equation with Mrunal's character. Aziz's progress in the film is rapid, but then a secret known only to Ananya explodes in his face, leading to a bundle of emotions sweeping him off his feet.

Although its a power-packed film, the magic of Mehra and Akhtar is missing from the screen. The movie is fast, missing on the soul track of its organic story.

The dialogue writer Vijay Maurya has worked profoundly to keep Mumbai's 'Gully Boy' type lingo intact. Overall, the film will impress you with it's proper dose of patriarchal thinking, society standards, mentor-mentee relationship, and much more.

Many found the film enchanting, while some were left dissapointed. Here's how netizens are reacting to the film. Take a look at their reviews.
