Mumbai: A horrifying incident has come to light where a 45-year-old Shiv Sena leader, Sachin Sawant, was shot dead by two motorists on Sunday evening.

The incident took place around 7:30 pm when Sachin Sawant locked the party office at Kranti Nagar, Mumbai, and was walking back home. The assailants fired at him and Sawant somehow managed to dodge few bullets and began to run for his life.

After the chase about 200 meters, the assailants shot the sixth bullet which hit Sawant in the chest and collapsed near the Sai Baba temple. The residents informed about this incident to Sawant's family. His son Omkar and his relatives and friends rushed Sawant to the nearest hospital. As his condition was very critical, they referred him to Shatabdi Hospital, where he was declared dead around 8:30 pm.

A police source disclosed that Sawant had been attacked earlier in 2010. The police suspect that it might be an old rivalry over a property dispute. Sachin Sawant was promoted to Shakha Pramukh recently but was yet to be declared officially.
