Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are returning for a sequel to 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.' The actors confirmed the news at the D23 fan event, revealing the new film is in production and will be released exclusively on Hulu.

Nearly three decades after 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' became a favourite among comedy fans, Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are back together as Romy and Michele. According to PEOPLE magazine, the actors reunited at the 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where they spoke about the upcoming sequel and their return to the roles that made the 1997 film memorable.

Sequel in Production for Hulu

The sequel is currently in production and will release exclusively on Hulu. The original film followed best friends Romy White and Michele Weinberger as they prepared for their 10-year high school reunion. Worried about meeting former classmates, the two friends came up with stories about their careers to make their lives look more successful than they were.

Stars Reflect on Real High School Years

For Sorvino, the story was close to her own experience. She revealed that her high school years were not easy, although she had her close friends by her side. "Here's the crazy part," Sorvino told PEOPLE. "I had such a miserable experience in high school, except with my best friends."

Unlike Romy, who returns to face her former classmates in the film, Sorvino said she has never attended any of her high school reunions. "I never went. I've never been, which is really sad," she admitted. "It's like I'm still afraid of the A group or the mean girls or whatever you want to call it."

Kudrow, meanwhile, had a different experience. The actor said she did attend her high school reunion but has decided not to go back again.

Sorvino also recalled how her relationship with some former classmates changed after she became famous. She said some people from her past later tried to reconnect with her. "Some of them [have] written me letters over the years once I became famous, wanting to be my friends, which I found very ironic," Sorvino shared. "I'm sure they're all very nice people now, but I love my college reunions."

Original Writer Returns for Sequel

The original 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' was directed by David Mirkin and written by Robin Schiff. The upcoming sequel brings Sorvino and Kudrow back with Schiff, who is returning as the writer. (ANI)
