The movie will be distributed in Kerala by Mohanlal's MaxLab and Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas. Producer Rockline Venkatesh has got the rights of distributing Kabali in Karnataka.

According to to the reports Mohanlal purchased the distribution rights for the large amount of ₹8.5 crore. It is the highest-ever rate paid for another language movie in Mollywood.


Kabali will hit 150 screens in Kerala alone, on the release day itself. If the reports are to be true, Rajini has also promised to attend the Kerala promotional events, organised by Mohanlal and his team.


Kabali is directed by Pa Ranjith, will have Rajinikanth in the title role Kabaleeswaran (Kabali), a don. Actress Radhika Apte essays the female lead opposite Rajini in the movie. 


Mohanlal and Rajni share a great bond in the real life but have not yet worked together. Earlier, Mohanlal was approached to play the antagonist in several Rajini films, including Shivaji. But the actor refused the offers, as they were a cliched negative role which had no scope to perform.
