Ilavarasan wrote a suicide note to Vishal, who is a friend and also the secretary of South Indian Film Artiste Association, saying that he was struggling to run his family as several filmmakers had not cleared his payments.
In the suicide note, Ilavarasan wrote he had tried to contact Vishal to convey him his financially and mental problems.
The police said, "Ilavarasan was alone at his home in MKB Nagar when he drank rat poison. One of his friends came looking for him at his house after not getting any response to several phone calls."
He found the actor lying unconscious. Later, he was rushed to Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital where he directly admitted to ICU. His condition is said to be stable now.
Police said the actor has been living with his wife Sasikala and son Shiva. His wife reportedly fought with him several times after he failed to settle payments from producers.
Recently, because of an argument, Sasikala sent a divorce notice to Ilavarasan which drives him to attempt suicide, conforms police.
An investigating officer said, "The actor was dependent on the money he earned from films, TV serials and had no proper income for him."
Ilavarasan has acted in Kollywood films like Onaiyum Aatukutiyum, Siruthai and Saguni and some serials.
