The songs have gotten fairly positive reviews from netizens especially this:  "Katravai Patravai and Kannamma".

Music Director Santhosh Narayanan's jukebox for Rajinikanth's Kaala is packed with layers. The album is a classic example of what to expect when rap meets local Tamil music and emotions. Santhosh gives a pretty exhaustive jukebox; one that is surprisingly unlike any other typical Rajinikanth album except few references here and there.

Santhosh Narayanan-composed Katravai Patravai, Kannamma and Nikkal Nikkal numbers have clicked instantly with the listeners. Lyricist Vivek may be known for penning lyrics, but in Kaala, he lent his voice for one of the tracks - Nikkal Nikkal.

The album has a variety of songs. From rap to melody, singers like Hariharasudhan, Santhosh Narayanan, Shankar Mahadevan, Pradeep Kumar, Ananthu, Dhee, Vijay Prakash, Muthamil and Vivek have lent their voices for Rajini's Kaala. Every song track has a deep meaning.

The songs will be available on the official YouTube page of Wunderbar Studios along with other digital platforms. Kaala projects Rajini as the messiah of Tamil locals living in Mumbai slums. It is about a man who stands up against the injustice done to his people.

According to reports, the film was based on late underworld don Haji Mastan Mirza, the makers have denied the rumours and claimed that it is an original film. The movie marks the second movie of Pa Ranjith with Rajinikanth after Kabali.

Kaala will be dubbed into Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam apart from a few foreign languages. The movie also features, Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi as the female lead. Samuthirakani, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Sayaji Shinde, Sampath Raj and others are in the cast.
