I am excited to play Madhavikutty Manju Warrier

Ever Manju Warrier was roped in to play Madhavikutty aka Kamala Das in the popular writer's biopic, the actress has been receiving warning messages from many netizens on social media.

Manju has replaced Vidya Balan, who was initially roped in to play Madhavikutty in director Kamal's biopic Aami.

According to the actress, the reason behind her decision to act in Kamal's film was not his political views, but his excellence as a creative person.

The director's Ee Puzhayum Kadannu and Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu remain as some of Manju's best works till date. She also considers both the films as the biggest fortunes she received in her acting career. Now, Manju is very happy and excited to work with Kamal, after a long gap of 20 years.

"I am a person who visits temple twice everyday, and even offer prayers when I am infornt of a mosque or church. Madhavikutty is a legend, and to portray her life onscreen would be a dream for any actress. Therefore, I request each one of you to consider Aami as a movie and mine as just a character. Cinema is an art form, and the people behind-the-scenes might have different political views, but when it comes to filmmaking, they all work together with a similar attitude. This will happen in Aami as well. The ones making this controversial might have some hidden agendas. I hope Aami will be a proud project for every Malayalee and for the world cinema. Requesting everyone to stand together for making it a good project and I expect the support of well wishers in me taking up this challenging role," reads her social media post

In a Facebook post, she wrote that "to portray the real story of the legendary writer would be the dream of any actress and requested the audience to consider that she is just playing a challenging role without making it a big issue."

She also said in the post that, she is a person who visits temples, churches, and mosques with the same devotion.

Manju Warrier added that it was a role which extremely fascinates and challenges her. The actress concluded her post by requesting the audiences to stop irrelevant controversial debates upon the movie and support the efforts of the Aami team members.

Who is Kamala Das and why she is a controversial person?

Born as Madhavikutty to a Nair family with royal family, the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award winner later converted to Islam at the age of 65 in 1999. Kamala Das assumed the name Kamala Surayya and her conversion made her a controversial figure in Kerala.
