The weather may still be far from getting colder, but as far as our TV shows go, winter has arrived. Season 7 of Game of Thrones has kicked off and got all of us into a frenzy over what twists and turns the story of the seven kingdoms is going to take. With every season of the show, there’s also been a whole bunch of musicians who are paying tribute to the TV show in the best way possible – with their instruments.

Here are 7 spectacular renditions of this classic theme song that you need to check out now:

This beautiful version of the Game of Thrones theme song strips it the music down to just 3 cellos and a djembe but maintains the same power and essence of the original version. The performers in this video don’t restrict themselves when it comes to adding their own unique flavours which makes for one of the most spectacular cover versions.

With all that violence, gore and warfare, Game of Thrones is probably the most metal show out there. Thanks to this video, we’re able to hear what the GOT theme would sound like if a progressive metal band had performed it. The performer in the video, Jonathan Young, even plays all instruments in the video! It doesn’t get much heavier than this.

Boyce Avenue’s popularity has soared over the years thanks to their stripped down, intimate covers of popular songs. However, they’ve decided not to just restrict themselves to just pop songs and have covered the Game of the Thrones theme too! With the GOT theme, they’ve made the memorable theme more relaxing, translating the theme to just two acoustic guitars and a djembe which really allows the melody to shine through.

GOT has become a truly global phenomenon. Karan Chitra Deshmukh showcases in this video how good music and stories has the ability to transcend boundaries with his amazing tabla performance. What makes this performance so unique is his use of percussion to create melodies! With all the kingdoms that have ruled over India in the past, maybe it’s time for a desi GOT?

What would Game of Thrones be like if Clint Eastwood had directed it? Well, thanks to this video, we have an answer to that questions, and the answer is that it would still be awesome, if not even better. Listen to this version with your eyes closed and you’ll see Jon Snow riding a horse across the desert with a cowboy hat on, shooting down white walkers and reclaiming what’s rightly his.

Season 7 has already seen an interesting cameo in the shape of Ed Sheeran. He’s gone from busking on the streets to a cameo role in one of the best TV series of all time. Now, buskers are strengthening their association with Game of Thrones with this cover of the GOT theme song. It’s hard to believe that such spectacular performances can take place on the side of a street!

The most epic pieces of music deserve a truly epic rendition. This version is performed by a massive orchestra of students, with even a part of the song being performed with only vocals. Imagine the time and commitment it would have taken to get a performance of this scale together. It’s truly a fitting tribute to one of the grandest shows on TV right now.

So, that’s the Indigo XP’s list of the 7 best Game of Thrones theme covers but there’s plenty more out there that didn’t make it here. Make sure to share your favourite cover version of the song in the comments!
