BTS’ 'Love Yourself 結 - Answer' became the first ever K-Pop album to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after it sold 1 million copies with the US
FollowNew York: According to 'Billboard' on January 23, BTS's 3rd full repackaged album 'Love Yourself 結 - Answer' was recently certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) - the first ever K-Pop album to achieve this feat!
Answer, which was released on August 24, 2018, was the first-ever South Korean album to be certified gold by the RIAA and has now sold more than 1 million copies. Last year’s Map of the Soul: Persona was certified gold in August.
To earn this platinum certification, an album must sell exactly 1 million copies within the US, (One equivalent album unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one album sale, 10 tracks sold from an album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from an album.) In addition to 'Love Yourself 結 - Answer' earning its historical platinum certification, the RIAA has also certified the title track from the same album, BTS's "Idol", as a platinum-selling single, joining BTS’ “Mic Drop” and “Boy with Luv,” featuring Halsey, in the platinum club.
One equivalent song unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to one digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on February 1, 2016, growing from a pure sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.
BTS will perform at the '62nd Grammy Awards' on January 26, ahead of their comeback next month on February 21 with their 4th full album 'Map of the Soul: 7'.
