While most of us struggle making it through school or at least through some of the more complex subjects like mathematics, there are child prodigies like Kanthi Dutt who enchant the world with their brilliant talents.

While mesmerized by them for obvious reasons, we also ask ourselves: how can a 20-year-old have skills & thoughts a normal person will obtain in the late 30s or in 40s generally? Scientists have of course for many years examined what makes a child prodigy.

His brother Paavanish who just finished his Master of Management - Accounting & Finance from Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne, Australia believes that his brother Kanthi has knowledge par his educational theories. “Starting as early as at the age of 12, Kanthi experienced life too early which helped him evolve as a person & build larger than life persona” says Paavanish. Everyone loves a prodigy we think. Prodigies grab our attention with their skills & for living extraordinary lives.

But Paavanish has a different perspective while living with one such young man. He says, “He is always on the go to do something & it’s not easy to match up to his pace. It is sometimes scary & not so obvious. It comes with a lot of difficulties & complex situations to handle while living with such prodigies.” Also on the personal front, Kanthi keeps sharing that people are awe of his work but do not really want to sit chitchat. People often don’t choose them for the ‘happy go lucky’ activities or to hangout with presuming they are very studious.

The difference lies in the working memory says scientists. Our working memory is important for a number of tasks in our everyday life – its main task is to memorize and store information. Learn new things, make logical decisions and recall pieces of information which we’ve stored away in our memories – all of these are tasks our working memory masters. Our working memory capacities are highly correlated with our intelligence. As expected, these genius children were found to have IQ scores greater than the general population.

Paavanish adds, “It’s complicated, but as a brother I can’t imbibe this into his head and make him feel more insecure. He has friends in the age group of 35-70 & I believe that he is who he is because of the knowledge sharing that happens when Kanthi hangs out with them. Whatsoever, I am so proud of his abilities & will power”. Some people are just born to achieve in the supreme scale, larger than ordinary & we should go that extra mile to support such children.

A group of researchers believes that prodigies possess a gentic specialty, whereas an other group is of the opinion that it is due to their family environment and social background that these children become such geniuses. This nature versus nurture dilemma is proven clearly in Kanthi Dutt’s case. It is evident that only due to the environmental nurturing along with his genetic capacity has paved his path to success.
