West Bengal: EC removes state security advisor Surajit Kar Purakayastha ahead of polls

In 2018, Surajit Kar Purakayastha had retired from his services as the state police's Director General (DGP), and he was appointed as the state security advisor.

Surajit Kar Purakayastha has also been informed that he will not be involved in any election related work.
The commission has ordered the transfer of several top police officers in the state since the election was announced. The first to be transferred was ADB Law Enforcement Officer Gyanwant Singh.

The commission also transferred DG Birendra of the state police. This time the state security adviser was removed.
Meanwhile, the retired IPS officer has already been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
