UP Assembly passes landmark bills to transform higher education, welcomes foreign university campuses

Uttar Pradesh's Legislative Assembly passed four landmark bills to enhance higher education. The reforms allow institutions from other states and foreign universities to establish campuses in the state. This initiative aims to provide affordable, world-class education, boost regional development, and create job opportunities.


Lucknow, December 18: In a groundbreaking development, the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly has passed four landmark bills aimed at revolutionizing the state’s higher education system. These reforms will allow the establishment of three new private universities and the entry of foreign university campuses, marking a significant leap forward in the state’s educational landscape.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the bills seek to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading hub for quality education, making world-class learning accessible to students within the state. Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay emphasized that these reforms will enhance Uttar Pradesh's national and international stature.

Previously, only institutions registered within Uttar Pradesh could establish universities in the state. However, the new amendment opens the doors for institutions, companies, and trusts from other states with a proven track record to set up private universities. Additionally, foreign universities recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) will now be able to establish campuses in Uttar Pradesh.

This move is expected to bring top-tier education to students without the need to travel outside the state, making it more affordable and accessible. The establishment of new universities like Vidya Vishwavidyalaya Meerut, Vivek Vishwavidyalaya Bijnor, and Chandigarh Vishwavidyalaya Unnao will drive regional development and create new employment opportunities.

The reform also aims to elevate the overall quality of education, fostering research and innovation and preparing students for global opportunities. Uttar Pradesh's higher education system is now set to compete at international standards, providing students with an enriching educational experience.
