Schools, colleges will not reopen until situation becomes normal in state: WB Education Minister

West Bengal Education minister Partha Chatterjee informed on Tuesday (September 15) that schools and colleges will not open in the state unless the situation returns to normalcy. However, the Union Home ministry instructed that students from classes 9 to 12 can attend school on a voluntary basis from September 21 onwards. As a result, the Centre-State conflict has escalated further during the unlock phase.


Kolkata: The Union Home Ministry instructed that students from class 9 to 12 can attend school on a voluntary basis September 21 onwards. But the West Bengal Education Minister, Mr. Partha Chatterjee, informed on Tuesday (September 15) that schools and colleges will not be open in the state unless the situation returns to normal.

Partha Chatterjee said, “The schools and colleges will reopen only when the situation becomes normal. As of now, the institutions are closed till September 30. How can you even ask when schools will reopen? COVID cases are still increasing rapidly…. I have no idea how you can open schools now.”

The Center-State conflict escalated further during the unlock phase.

The lockdown has been going on for three consecutive months. The recovery rate has increased a lot. Not everyone has to be hospitalized. Many are getting cured of home treatments.

However, the COVID infection is still taking the lives of many people. The number of victims is increasing by leaps and bounds every day. Amidst all these, the government has continued the process of unlocking. With the exception of two specific weeks, public life in the state has become virtually normal. Along with other transport modes, the metro service has been resumed in Kolkata from Monday (September 14) following the necessary rules and precautions.

The Center has given conditional permission to the students from class 9 to 12 to go to school from September 21. Amidst COVID-19 situation, the students have achieved unexpected results in higher secondary examination.

Education Minister Partha Chatterjee felicitated the meritorious students at his Assembly Constituency in Behala on Wednesday (September 16). In the function, he stated the government’s decision of not opening schools and colleges in September.
