The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday (March 16) welcomed renowned singer Anuradha Paudwal into its fold, as she arrived at the BJP office around 1:15 pm to formalize her membership. Paudwal's decision to join the BJP comes at a time, with the Lok Sabha elections looming on the horizon. The Election Commission is all set to announce the election dates, along with assembly elections in some states, later today.

Paudwal's personal life has seen its share of joys and sorrows; she married Arun Paudwal in 1969, who served as SD Burman's assistant and a music composer.

The couple had two children, son Aditya and daughter Kavita. Tragically, their son passed away several years ago, while Arun Paudwal breathed his last in 1991.

As the political landscape heats up, opposition parties have formed the 'INDIA' alliance, aiming to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

While the 'INDIA' alliance boasts more than two dozen parties, the NDA comprises approximately 40 parties, boasting a current tally of over 350 MPs. However, the 'INDIA' alliance has encountered setbacks in several states, with regional parties opting to contest independently.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, voting took place over seven phases, commencing on April 11 and concluding on May 19. Results were announced on May 23, with over 91 crore voters participating, accounting for a 67 percent voter turnout.
