Peru’s elections have descended into chaos. Authorities in Lima say they will reopen 13 polling stations after major logistical failures left more than 60,000 people unable to vote in the April 12 presidential and legislative elections. The disruption has sparked protests, with citizens chanting “We want to vote” and raising serious allegations of electoral fraud. Demonstrators claim manipulation and are demanding fresh elections. This comes as Peru struggles with deep political instability, having seen eight presidents in just the past decade, alongside rising crime and public unrest. Early exit polls show Keiko Fujimori leading the race. She is the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, who served 16 years in prison for crimes against humanity.
