Kolkata welcomes winter as mercury drops to 15 degrees Celsius

Synopsis

People of Kolkata got to feel the winter chill on Monday (November 23) morning as the temperature dropped to 15.5 degrees Celsius. The temperature has been steadily dropping over the past 48 hours. On Saturday (November 21), the minimum temperature was around 22 degrees Celsius; on Sunday (November 22), it had come down to around 19.5 degrees Celsius.

An early morning nip in the air brought the feel of early winter on Monday (November 23) as the minimum temperature dropped to 15.5 degrees Celsius.

According to the meteorological department, with the chilly north-westerly wind blowing in without obstruction, the nip may persist for the next three days.

A senior official of the India Meteorological Department’s regional office in Kolkata said, “The minimum temperature has dropped to 15.5 degrees Celsius on Monday which is three degrees below the normal. It has dropped by around four degrees since Sunday (November 22) morning.”

The temperature has been steadily dropping over the past 48 hours. On Saturday (November 21), the minimum temperature was around 22 degrees Celsius; on Sunday, it had come down to around 19.5 degrees Celsius.

Officials said that a depression has formed over the Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast and is likely to intensify further into a cyclone.

Cold and dry northerly winds are passing through Kolkata and other districts. This wind has helped to bring down the temperature.
