Karnataka: State government imposes restrictions on Eid processions

Synopsis

The Karnataka government has issued an order prohibiting any processions or programmes to celebrate Eid-Milad festivities on October 30, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has issued an order prohibiting any processions or programmes on Eid-Milad on October 30, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Programmes organised at Mohalla levels, use of loudspeakers in public places, and entry of citizens above 60 years and children below 10 in mosques are prohibited by the state government.

According to the order issued by the Department of Minority Welfare, Haj and Wakf, sanitisers and hand-washing facilities should be provided at the entrance of the mosque, social distancing should be maintained at mosques and masks are compulsory.

Meanwhile, the state has also imposed restrictions on the celebration of the state festival Dasara.

Not more than 300 people are allowed to witness the grand Jamboo Savari at the Mysuru palace.

All tourist spots in and around Mysuru have been shut down until November 1 to avoid the increase of COVID-19.

With the health ministry officials worrying about the Durga Puja, Dasara, Eid, Diwali, Chhath season for the next one month in the wake of the Onam experience in Kerala, the government has warned people to stay away from large congregations and celebrate the upcoming festivals at home, with their loved ones, instead of going out to fairs and pandals.
